Letter to Parents

7th March 2019

Dear Parents,

It has been a busy start to the new year and here in school, we are all happy with the arrival of spring! I am writing to keep you informed about a number of issues :

School Opening and Closing Times:

The Board of Management of Saint Mark’s S.N.S. wishes to advise all parents and guardians of the following:

1. The school officially opens to receive pupils at the hour of 8.50 am daily. No responsibility is accepted for pupils arriving before that time.

2. Classes will end each day at 2.30 pm. Parents who wish to have their children escorted home should make their own arrangements to have them met at the school gate and the person to escort them should be at the school not later than 2.30 pm as the school cannot accept responsibility for looking after the children after that time.

School Closures:

  1. School closed Monday 18th March 2019 as this is a public holiday.
  2. Easter Holidays 15th April - 28th April 2019. The children will be going home at 12 noon on Friday 12th April 2019.
  3. Staff Meeting: Thursday 2nd May 2019, children go home at 1.30 pm.

Child Safeguarding Statement and Child Safeguarding Risk Assessment:

Approximately three weeks ago all families received a copy of the school’s Child Safeguarding Statement and a copy of the Child Safeguarding Risk Assessment. Should you wish to give feedback to the board of management in relation to the school’s compliance with the requirement of the child safeguarding requirements of the ‘Child Protection Procedures for Primary and Post Primary Schools 2017’, you may do so by:

1. Writing to the Chairperson, Board of Management at the above address or

2. Email: principal@saintmarksns.ie. Principal / Secretary of the Board of Management.

Digital Schools of Excellence:

We are delighted to have been selected by Department of Education and Skill to be Lead School co-ordinating a Virtual Reality Project. The four cluster schools collaborating in the V.R. Project are St. Mark’s S.N.S., St. Anne’s N.S., Sacred Heart S.N.S.and St. Thomas’ S.N.S.This project is funded by the Department of Education, The School Excellence Fund. This is a very progressive new area in teaching and learning. All four schools are exploring, enjoying and integrating Virtual Reality into their daily Teaching, Learning and Assessment .

On Tuesday 26th March 2019 we will be officially launching this Virtuality Reality Project here in St. Mark’s. We will be launching a new website for the project on the day.

Ceremonies of Commitment and Light

The Ceremonies of Commitment and Light for our 6th Class Confirmation Classes will take place in St. Mark’s Catholic Church on Thursday 21st March at 11 am. Confirmation Day is Friday 17th May 2019.

Yours sincerely
